Photojournalist and theatrical photographer. He recorded the rise of the Nazi party in Germany with his photrographs for the remaining Jewish newspapers until they were finally closed in 1941. He survived the Holocaust and photographed the Soviet occupation of Eastern Germany as it became the communist GDR.
