The Allen Sisters (Francis and Mary) worked together, photographing and printing their own images, often in platinum, and were well-known participants in the period Arts and Crafts movement, particularly noted for their images of children. In this beautiful, soft-toned pictorialist view they capture three children gathered around a fireplace amid the colonial implements used in many of the Allen‘s images. Some of their recently rediscovered work is presented in Flynt and Rosenblum, The Allen Sisters: Pictorial Photographers 1885-1920 (2002).
