The Prophet
Beauty XXV

But you are life and you are the veil.
Beauty is eternity gazing at itself in a mirror.
But you are eternity and you are the mirror.

Kahlil Gibran (1883-1931, Lebanese born American philosophical essayist, novelist and poet.)

The photographer Fred Holland Day (1864-1933) met the young teenager Kahlil Gibran in 1896 and became his supporter, mentor and confidante. Day had a profound influence on his intellectual development which flourished through writings and lectures. Gibran‘s book The Prophet, which was published in October 1923, has gone on to become a classic. After Gibran‘s death in a New York Hospital his body was returned to his native Lebanon where he was feted as a cultural celebrity - his coffin was opened so a decoration of Fine Arts could be placed by the Lebanese Minister of the Arts.
