This exhibition of the work of the Croatian photographer Stanko Abadic coincides with his first US exhibition "Out of the Shadows" at the John Cleary Gallery, Houston, USA (April 27 - May 26, 2007) .
These black and white photographs show every day life in the Czech capital of Prague, a city that Stanko loves deeply. The images appear to come from a different age and critics and dealers have compared them to works by the great documentary photographers - Henri Cartier-Bresson, Andre Kertesz, Willy Ronis or Robert Doisneau. These comparisons are highly appropriate as the shadows, lighting and camera viewpoints do not mimic in a slavish way the works of other artists but rather continue, and respect, a photographic tradition.
These works are not about undigested novelty - rather they are about a deep understanding and appreciation of location and the little moments that gently pass by.
