The daguerreotype and ambrotype were precious, vulnerable objects requiring protection. The "Union Case," made from early thermoplastic, and leather-bound boxes became art forms in themselves. This theme appreciates the velvet pads, brass mats, and intricate relief sculptures that housed the earliest photographs.
