Photographer on the seacond season (1906-1907) of James Henry Breasted's University of Chicago expedition to record the archaeological sites of Nubia. He was fired from the expedition after he was found to have carved "H. Schliephack 1906" into the walls of the temples at Naga and Musauwarat. He went on to photograph on John Garstand's archaeological work at Meroe (1909/1910) and his photographs of the site and finds were published in John Garstang's Meroe, The City of the Ethopians (Oxford, 1911)
