Rome, Western side of the Church of San Maria Maggiore, with the small obelisk

Daguerreotype
National Science and Media Museum
Part of the Ellis group of daguerreotypes, Inventory no: 1890-56-R101

Landscape view of Rome, view of the western side of the Church of San Maria Maggiore: two cupolas are seen at each end and a small bell-tower beyond. The bare ground of the piazza is visible in the foreground, leading up to the church with an obelisk (with a cross on top) in front. On either side are trees (not in leaf) and bushes. Some of the windows of the church appear boarded up.
