The well crafted composition of this image is subtle enough to allow three tools to be held by the miner without making him look awkward. Note the touches of gold dabbed into the bottom of the pan representing the results of panning for placer gold. As an aside, he bears a strong resemblance to a young Mich'l Douglas.
