Belgian murderess accused and convicted of killing her house master Maria Caroline Riel in 1872 in a drunken rage. She then fled to Paris where she was apprehended and brought back to Dover. She stood trial and earned a sentence of life in prison. She was paroled in 1893 to much public outcry.
