| | Tony Mendoza An evolving retrospective
"During the first photo class I took, the instructor said that we could photograph anything we wanted, except cats, dogs, kids and sunsets. I think I know where he was coming from. These topics are the typical and mundane topics of photography; billions of pictures have been made and it‘s almost impossible to come up with an interesting picture of a cat or a kid, or at least, one we haven‘t seen before. Somehow, I‘ve managed to make those pictures (cats, dogs, flowers, kids, family) so that they feel fresh and worth considering. I‘ve published photography books about a cat, dogs, my family, flowers and in the process have won a large number of photography fellowships for the work."
