Julia Margaret Cameron [1815-1879] took this image during one of Alamayou's visits to Queen Victoria at Osborne House, Isle of Wight, in 1868. Cameron's portraits of Alamyou and Speedy were printed in large format, as well as in the form of cabinet cards and cartesde- visite. It is not clear whether this particular example was printed in 1868 or in the 1870s, when some cabinet card-sized prints were produced. It is also a possibility that some were printed at the time of Alamayou's death in 1879, when public interest in the Prince was renewed. The National Portrait Gallery, London, holds examples of portraits in the different formats.

This item was in "Catalogue Five, Photographs" of Allsworth Rare Books (2007)
