1.   Photomosaics
While a student at MIT Robert Silvers (1968-) sampled libraries of digital images to form a totally new image that had a recognisable image within it. He termed this 'Photomosaics' and it had immediate commercial popularity and was widely used for magazine art with covers of LIFE, Sports Illustrated, 'Newsweek', 'GEO', 'WIRED', Playboy´s 45th Anniversary Issue' and many others.
