On the academic side the film
Kinsey (2004), starring Liam Neeson as the researcher Alfred Kinsey, examines the background to the extensive studies carried to in the USA into human sexuality and were provocative for their revelations of what was assumed to be
normal. The research was published in two academic volumes
Sexual Behavior in the Human Male (1948) and
Sexual Behavior in the Human Female (1953) that became immediate best sellers revealing a far greater variety of practices than had been assumed in polite society.
Carol Quiers and Jennifer Yamashiro have authored a book
'Peek: Photographs from the Kinsey Institute' that examines the photographic archives that were created to support the research.
