the advice of his friend John Carbutt; 82 took
first photog. of lightning; turned professional
in 90, 90-91 assisted Frederick E. Ives with
experiments in early color photog; 93 took first
pictures of Philadelphia from a free balloon;
made color negs. for Ives of Yellowstone Park
and of Britain, experimented with X-ray photos.
Remained active commercially until ~1920. B. 60
