African American sociologist, civil rights activist, historian, educator and prolific author. He compiled three albums containing 363 photographs for the American Negro Exhibit at the 1900 Paris Exposition. The prize-winning exhibit was profound as it showed middle-class African Americans from Atlanta and other parts of Georgia rather than the usual racist representations.
