YOU CAN'T !
After much legwork, Tony Venti's location scout searched and found the perfect spot: a 2nd floor apartment over a store on Main St.. All the necessary arrangements were made with the tenant to secure a date, time and, of course, financial remuneration. On the day of the shoot a crew of 15 arrived - models, client, assistants...not to mention a conglomeration of cables, lights and strobe units. A knock on the door was greeted by a well worn woman: 'You can't come in'. VENTI: 'But you agreed to let us shoot' WOMAN: 'My son worked all night, he's asleep, you can't come in'. After a half an hour of futile negotiations, we departed'. Some things you just can't learn in Photography School.
NO PAPER DOLLS
An artist was commissioned to design and cut out a very expensive set of 6" paper dolls to be used in an ad for Bostonian Shoes. The shoot was scheduled for late afternoon to be resummed the next morning. The paper dolls were carefully placed in an empty shoe box. That evening the worst that could have happened, happened: the custodian came upon the shoe box, thinking it was trash, tossed it. Next Morning: NO PAPER DOLLS! Frantic calls to the NYC Sanitation Dept. revealed all refuse was trucked to a garbage skow moored in the East River. Venti's stylist grabbed a cab and raced to the pier. Once aboard, she climbed, high heels and all, upon piles of chaotic mess, searching for that 'needle-in-a-haystack' shoebox. Three hours later...the studio door burst open, revealing a triumphant...albeit, disheveled...stylist clutching the battered showbox. Just another day for Tony Venti Studios.
