Preparing biographies In 1852, at the age of nineteen, Briggs became a founding member of the Leeds Photographic Society. He contributed three calotypes to the society’s albums, his only known productions. By 1856 Briggs was a photographic chemist in Leeds in partnership with John William Ramsden, and by 1861 he had become a general manufacturing chemist. Roger Taylor & Larry J.
