Gaining experience by working with her elder sister Else who had a photographic studio in The Hague she went to work in the large studio of O. Kurkdjian & Co. in Surabaya in 1917. In 1920 she set up her own "Studio Lux" in Garoet [Garut], Sociėteitsstraat 15 above Mr D. G. Mulders "NV Garutsche Apotheek en Handelsonderneming" (a pharmacy and trade association), which ran until 1940.
