Graduated from the University of Florida and changed his major from herpetology to photography. He photographed the march of Martin Luther KIng from Selma Alabama to Montgomery for Ebony magazine. The Digital Journalist website (http://digitaljournalist.org) states that after his arrival in Vietnam in 1968 he "bribed his way onto a helicopter headed for Khe Sanh with a case of beer and a box of cigars". Photographing at the battle of Khe Sanh was a short experience as he died on 6 March when the C-123 cargo plane he was on leaving the base was shot down. That month one of his photographs of that battle of an exploding ammunition dump at Khe Sanh was on the cover of Newsweek on March 18, 1968 and he was posthumously given the Overseas Press Club's award for best coverage from abroad.Preparing biographies | | Portraits
