German photojournalist who documented the devastation of the German city of Dresden after the four raids that took place between 13 and 15 February 1945. Over 90% of the city centre was destroyed in the raids and between 22,000 and 25,000 were killed. His book Dresden, eine Kamera klagt an (Dresden, a photographic accusation) remains a powerful condemnation of the bombing.
