| Dates: | 1805, 6 December - 1870, 29 March | Born: | Italy, Turin | Died: | France, Achères | Active: | Iraq | From 1842 he served as French Consul in Mosul (Ottoman Empire, now Iraq). In 1843 he may have taken the first photographs of an archaeological excavation in progess with daguerreotypes of the Palace of Sarhgan (Sargon II, King of Assyria, B.C. 721-705) at Khorsabad (Iraq) that he mistakenly identified as the Palace of Ninevah. The whereabouts of these plates is not known. Later in the 1840s he was Frencxh Consul in Jerusalem.Preparing biographies
