Artist statement:

"My major was commercial art with an emphasis in graphic design. As a part of my course of study I was required to take a course in photography. When that first image appeared, as if by magic, I was hooked. From that moment on I knew my destiny was set. I would make photographs…"

"Since I can remember I have been enthralled by the images of Eliot Porter, Phillip Hyde, the book by Ernst Haas "The Creation" and of course, inevitably, Ansel Adams. Having met and photographed with Bruce Barnbaum, John Sexton, and Jay Dusard as well as the late Morley Baer and others my direction became firmly set. Drawn as inexorably to fine art photography as a bird to the sky, these contemporary masters have helped set my direction. They also have freely lent technical assistance which was sorely needed and for which I am profoundly grateful."

"My earliest photographic explorations were in the realm of nature photography. In fact some of my earliest reckonings are involved with the outdoors. From that beginning I branched into portrait and commercial photography, and still operate a studio which specializes in portrait photography. For a period of time I did very little landscape photography but now I have come full circle. Once again, the land is a very large factor in my photography."
