Gates; however he worked with two photogs. who
did produce them, J.J. Kempe and J.M. Fox.
Listed first as Daguerrean artist, 61; 64 as a
member of the first of a long list of
partnerships; Julius J. Kempe and Gates formed the partnership ~64; dissolved ~4/65; J.J. Kempe
remained at the same location through 66, then
left to study medicine and returned in 73 to
practice into the 20th century. Early 66 Gates
joined J.M. Fox; partnership dissolved in 70;
Gates then joined Sherman Gregg in Gates &
Gregg, 70-71; 71, became a partner of Curtis,
