German missionary who was sent to South America to convert the natives of Tierra de Fuego - a region divided between Chile and Argentia. Active in Patagonia and the Magellan zone, Antarctica, 1919-1924. During four stays in the region he morphed from a missionary into an anthropologist and did research on the Kawésqar, Yamana, and Selk’nam peoples. Taking over 1,000 photographs of their rituals including their extensive body painting.Preparing biographies
