Issued several series: "Yosemite Valley, California"; "Gems of the Pacific Coast"; "On the Line of the O.R. & N. Railway"; "On the Oregon Short Line"; "On the Line of the Union Pacific Railway"; residences, lakes, flumes, water falls, animals, groups, Indians, landscapes, #s seen to 245. B. 7/31/27 in Vermont; both M.M. & his Brother, George I., studied photography in St. Charles, IL; went to NYC for further instruction; arr. San Francisco 12/53; for a short time the 2 Hazeltines operated a daguerreotype shop in SF and made pictures of Yosemite and other mountain areas; mid-60s M.M. moved to Mendocino where he operated as photog.; many of his views taken in the Mendocino area were later pub. by such firms as J.P. Soule of Boston, B.W. Kilburn of NH, Lawrence & Houseworth of CA; at the end of the 60s made the first of many visits to the Yosemite/Big Tree region; in partnership with J.J. Reilly in Stockton & Yosemite Valley, 70s; returned to Mendocino on and off till the 80s; to ID, 83; listed in Baker City, OR, 95; succeeded by Gustave Fagersteen. D. 03.
