[6-8] [Lewis Dowe, also seen as Dow] "Portrait & Landscape Photographer"; "Portrait & View Photographer", "Photographed and Published by..."; issued several series but views generally uncommon: "New Hampshire Scenery", B/L of 107 views; "Stereoscopic Views of Petaluma & Vicinity"; "Chicago in Ruins after the great Conflagration of Oct. 9th, 1871", [40]; many of CA, Chinese procession, Petaluma, S.F., Woodward's Gardens. B. NH 38; operated in Concord 62 to about 72; had studio in Petaluma 77-80; moved to San Francisco ~83; had various studios there in 80s; 04 listed as musical inst. repairer; unclear when he was located in IL must have been in mid-70s; possible also that he never had studio there but either visited after fire or issued views of it by some other photog. In partnership with A.J. McDonald in San Francisco 80s.
