Dates: | 1852, 8 February - 1932, 17 April | Born: | Duchy of Nassau, Kronberg im Taunus | Pharmacist, inventor and amateur photographer. He used homing pigeons to obtain urgent chemicals from his pharmaceutical wholesaler. Developed a tiny camera in 1903 that could be breast-mounted on a pigeon to take aerial photographs. As cameras became lighter he experimented with attaching small cameras to homing pigeons and in 1908 patented his invention.
At the Dresden International Photographic Exhibition in 1909 this technique was used to create aerial photographs taken above the exhibition that were sold as postcards.Preparing biographies
