He travelled extensively in South Africa and in December 1860 he set out on a lengthly expedition with his brother Henry and artist Thomas Baines (1820-1875) to explore the Zambesi to see if it was navigable from Victoria Falls to the coast. Chapman took photographs, including stereoviews, of Victoria Falls in 1862. His photographs of Damaraland were shown at the 1867 Paris exhibition.Preparing biographies
