A free black abolitionist who photographed in Montana. He photographed the building of the Montana State Capitol Building and the black middle class of Montana.
The Ball Special Collection at Cincinnati Museum consists of several hundred images by James Presley Ball, Ball & Thomas, and Alexander Thomas and is the largest collection of images by Ball and partners. These include daguerreotypes and other cased images, cartes-de-visite, cabinet cards, and other photographic formats.
