He invented a uranium-based printing-out paper, the Wothlytype, in 1864 that was more sensitive than the albumen processes available at the time. It was abandoned soon afterwards when it was found that there were problems of permanence. A letter by William Henry Fox Talbot written on 5 December 1864 to the editor of The British Journal of Photography, v. 11, 9 December 1864, pp. 494-495 explains his thoughts on the process.
