Artist statement: On the River Thames series that used expired film stock.
"The creation of a series specifically based on the River Thames was partly due to a photographic commission whereby I was asked to document workers on the river. This led to many days spent along the whole length of the river, at all hours of the day, documenting the events occurring on the water and its banks.
This experience helped to stimulate an interest in the river and its relation to the city. The Thames has a timeless nature and offers a natural break away from the manmade.
Shooting with expired film has its advantages… I am usually able to have my photographs developed for free! The chemist on seeing that the old film has boiled and reticulated in the developers is quick to offer a refund believing that they are in error!"
