Names:
Other: Irv Pobboravsky
Dates:  1933, 29 July -
Born:  US, NY, New York City
Active:  US
Gender:  Male

Contemporary Daguerreotypist.

Artist statement:

Why I make daguerreotypes

Beauty: First and foremost, the potential of the process to produce beautiful images.

Challenging Craft: It is a challenging craft providing the pleasures (and frustrations) of exercising and coordinating mind and hand.

Surprise: The process does not image the world in a literal sense but transforms it in exciting and unexpected ways -- opening doors one didn’t know were there.

Mystery: The technology and science underlying the process is still an intriguing mystery - why it works sometimes and not others.

Above all it is the potential beauty of the process that is both necessary and sufficient for me.
