Largely known for his carte de visite portraits of actors and for his propaganda photomontages of those involved in Paris Commune of 1871. He had a studio in Paris at 48 rue Vivienne from 1864 to 1876 and later at Melun at 13 avenue Thiers from 1881 to 1887.
