John Falconer, British Library A Biographical Dictionary of 19th Century Photographers in South and South-East Asia | Amateur, Burma and China
Born at Jaulnah, the son of Captain (later Colonel) Augustus Frederic Williams and Jane, daughter of Rev. William Polwhele. Commissioned into British Army 1881 and served with Royal Irish Fusiliers in the Sudan Campaign, 1884; Wing Officer, 26th Madras Native Infantry, 1885; served in Burma in operations on the western frontier, 1885-7. Capt, 1892; Maj, 1901; D.A.A.G., Chin Hills, 1896; D.A.Q.M.G., 4th Infantry Brigade, China Expeditionary Force, 1900; died after being mauled by a tiger while hunting and buried in St Mary’s Churchyard, Madras. Photographed while stationed in Burma and China.
