In 1985 Father Edward O'Donnell SJ found a large collection of the work of the Jesuit priest Father Browne at the Irish Jesuit Provincial's House in Ireland. The partly damaged collection of almost 42,000 negatives covers the period between 1897 and the 1950s that were the formative years for the newly independent Ireland. He travelled from Southampton to Queenstown on the maiden voyage of the Titanic in April 1912 and took photographs of the life on the ship prior to the tragic sinking. In April 2012 he appeared on the 55 cent Irish postage stamp to mark the centenary of the Titanic.
