In 1867 the book Herbier Forestier de la France (French wild herbs) was published by Eugène Charles de Gayffier that included early heliogravures of plants. This scientific volume was one of the earliest illustrated with photographs. In 1867 De Gayffier was appointed by the Minister of Agriculture to its "special photographic operations" (Information from Bassenge -Auction, 4 December 2013, lot: 4040)
