Dates: | 1878, 23 February - 1936 (after) | Active: | France / UK | Official photographer to the British Royal Family, the Admiralty and later the first Official Photographer to the British forces during the First World War. He was the only official photographer to cover the Battle of the Somme. After the war he continued his photography of the Royal Family until 1925 when his appointment was abruptly cancelled.
Large collections of his work on the First World War are held by the Imperial War Museum and the National Library of Scotland.Preparing biographies
