Preparing biographies Approved biography for Earl L. Mohr (Courtesy of Christian Peterson) | Earl L. Mohr was born in Mankato, Minnesota, on April 12, 1919. Beginning in 1945, he worked as a production control supervisor at the U.S. Thermo Control Company.
Mohr joined the Minneapolis Y.M.C.A. Camera Club and in 1945 won a blue ribbon in the first Minnesota Statewide Salon, sponsored by the club and hung at Dayton’s department store. The same year, he had one photograph accepted at the Minneapolis Salon of Photography, presented at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. In 1952, he moved to the Minneapolis suburb of Bloomington, where there was no camera club, and lost interest in photography.
Mohr’s Menace is an unusually haunting pictorial image. It shows the shadow of a man on a wooden structure with rough surfaces and additional shadow areas. The mystery of the figure and dominance of darks are, indeed, menacing. Earl L. Mohr died in Minneapolis on January 27, 1974. Christian A.
