English meteorologist who claiimed to be the first to take aerial photographs in England in 1887-1888 using a camera carried by a string of kites although no examples of his photographs have survived and the documentation, such as it is, is limited and confused. It is safer to assume that Arthur Batut in France was the pioneer of kite photography as he left good evidence as well as photographs.
