Preparing biographies

Approved biography for Donald P. Wilson
(Courtesy of Christian Peterson)

Donald P. Wilson was born on July 31, 1902, in Minneapolis, where he spent his whole life. He began working as a draftsman/designer around 1932 and spent a few years at the U.S. Air Conditioning Corporation. In 1937, he moved to McQuay, Inc., a manufacturer of heating and cooling coils, where he stayed until his retirement in 1967.

The Gopher Camera Club, based at the Hotel Dyckman in Minneapolis, voted Wilson into membership at its meeting of March 11, 1940. Six months later, one of his prints received an honorable mention in the club’s monthly competition. In 1941, he was elected vice president in charge of exhibits and in 1945 president of the club. His work was accepted by juries for the Minneapolis Salon of Photography in 1940 and 1941. The American Annual of Photography included him in its listing of "Who’s Who in Pictorial Photography," indicating that he was successful at three salons in the 1941-42 exhibition season.

The Minneapolis institute os Arts blue-toned print by Wilson, Cloud Patrol, shows a plane in billowing cumulous clouds, and is a combination print, made from two negatives. He died in Minneapolis, on September 26, 1993.
