| Dates: | 1846 - 1916 | Born: | Russia | Active: | Russia | Russian photographer who joined many early ethnographic and archeological expeditions including expeditions to Svaneti and other regions of Georgia and a journey to Sukhum-Kale. He left a remarkable legacy for the study of the Caucasus region and the surrounding areas. The surviving collection at the Georgian National Museum is substantial with 9,000 photos, approximately 3,000 stereo-photos, nearly 15,000 glass negatives as well as 128 photographic albums.
In 1918, Dimitry Ermakov’s collection was jointly bought by Georgian historical and ethnographic societies and Tbilisi State University and in 1930 the archive was donated to the Georgian National Museum.Preparing biographies
