Dates: | 1938, 1 January - | Born: | Australia, Sydney | Active: | Australia | Australian monochrome photographer and bromoilist. Artist statement: Having been schooled way back in my youth in the ways of the traditional wet darkroom and monochrome photography, it is still to this day the form of photography that I so dearly love. Add to this the very early 20th Century traditions of Bromoil print making and I suppose for many these days I could be considered a relic of the past.
The art of Bromoil brings for me not only a romance of the past but also a way of expressing different feelings to the final print. A bromoil print allows for an incredible diversification in the appearance of the final image. The hand application of ink with a brush allows for the image to be brought to life in so many ways, not only reflecting that of past ways but also in a contemporary and abstract manner with single or mulicolour inks, limited only by ones imagination.
Although predominantly a landscape photographer, I am now also finding considerable joy seeing and photographing the smaller things that abound around us in our everyday lives, but which are so easily overlooked.
