became interested in photog. & ran studio there
60-66 with brother T.P. Stiff as "C.W. & T.P.
Stiff" & "Stiff Bros."; no views known from this
period. Worked alone & in partnership with L.W.
Cook in Danvers late 60s & Benjamin F. Jones in
Salem, 70-72. Suffered from asthma & "went west
for his health" with brother; established the
"Minnehaha Photograph Gallery" at 115 Washington
Ave. N. under name of "C.W. Stiff & Co.".
Issued "Minnesota Scenery", several B/Ls,
claimed "1,000 negatives" but views uncommon, of
area scy.; had branch at Minnehaha Falls to
photog. tourists, said to be main source of
income. Activity in 80s-early 90s unclear;
returned to MA prob. in mid-80s; surfaces in
Foxboro (listed 98) as "Publisher of White
Mountain, Nahant, & Salem, Stereoscopic Views";
issued scarce NH & MA area scy., church int.,
funeral flowers, studio portraits. Listed
Middleboro 60-68, Danvers 68-70, St. Paul 70-80,
