Dates:  1976 -
Born:  US, CA, San Francisco
Active:  US

Contemporary American photographer.

Artist statement:

“My first and still ongoing series 'Myths and Tales’ is inspired by my own life and dreams. Every image is thought out in detail and carefully staged to capture my inspiration.

Diffused perspectives, achieved by using pinhole photography transferred on Polaroid, create an almost transcendent expression – like notations of memories, which come and go. The colors and light in this series are reminiscent of Paintings of the Golden Age (Dutch).

'Exotic World’ an extremely colorful body of work, documents a famous burlesque stripper event in the Desert of Victorville. The artistic interpretation contradicts the almost voyeuristic approach to the subject and creates an exciting sensuality.

And last, but not least, one of my latest projects - Nostalgia.

Approaching one of the top icons in our society – Classic Automobiles.

Avoiding the immaculate reproduction of the subject, as we know it from advertising campaigns, my images are about the emotional impact these objects create, the tracks they leave in our memory. Tracks of Beauty, Power, and Desire. It’s more about the aura and personality of these cars than their design details.”

Supplemental information

Brooke Lydecker, a young, upcoming and emerging Californian Photographer, crafted her art while studying and working in Arizona, California, Europe and South Africa. She holds a degree in Photographic Arts and Sciences from The Brooks Institute of Photography, Santa Barbara., California.

Her first large series ‘Myths and Tales’ is inspired by her own life and dreams. Every image is thought out in detail and carefully staged to capture her inspiration. As a gifted stylist and with her own inventory of props, she personally creates the mood and visual setting for each shot. Diffused perspectives, achieved by using pinhole photography transferred on Polaroid, create an almost transcendent expression – like notations of memories, which come and go. The colors and light in this series are reminiscent of Paintings of the Golden Age (Dutch) or Les Fauves (French Expressionists) ‘Exotic World’, an extremely colorful body of work, documents a famous burlesque stripper event in the Desert of Victorville. Lydecker’s artistic interpretation contradicts the almost voyeuristic approach to the subject and creates an exciting sensuality. And last, but not least, her latest series ‘Nostalgia’. Lydecker approaches here one of the top icons in our society –Classic Automobiles. Avoiding the immaculate reproduction of the subject, as we know it from advertising campaigns, her images are about the emotional impact these objects create, the tracks they leave in our memory. Tracks of Beauty, Power, and Desire. It’s more about the aura and personality of these cars than their design details.
