Had a long relationship with National Geographic and accompanied many expeditions. Respected for his mountaineering photography and his aerial photography of remote areas.
In 1980 the Alexander Graham Bell Medal of the National Geographic Society was awarded to Bradford Washburn and his wife Barbara Washburn for their seven years mapping the Grand Canyon.
