Photographer, educator and author. His wide ranging scholarship on Bill Brandt and the saving of the collections of Francis Frith from obscurity would each represent significant contributions to the history of photography but in addition to this he has published widely in Camera Work and more recently in Lens Work. He has also taken portraits of many of the greatest contemporary photographers and a small selection of these was published in his 1983 book ‘Photographers photographed‘.
