Stereoscopic photographer, backlists on stereoviews. Active: New Albany, Ind.
 
Cave photographer. Based in New Albany, Indiana, he is noted for his series of stereocards "Views of Mammoth Cave and vicinity". His photographs were included in the guidebooks on Mammoth Cave, Kentucky, authored by Horace Carter Hovey (1833-1914).

[7-9] *"Photographer"; "Cave Photographer"; Hains made scenic views of IN starting in the late 70s but these are very rare & undistinguished; his excellent cave photos were made from 88 on, most in late 80s/to mid-90s; also made lantern slides of view halves. Series include "Views of Wyandotte Cave & Vicinity", 89; "Marengo & Cave", #'s 501-591; "Views of Mammoth Cave & Vicinity", ~130 fine views; also made views of Weyer Cave and Cave of Fountains which are rare; several B/Ls, 400+ scy. incl. many cave views. All interior views of Mammoth Cave CR from 89 to 96 by H.C. Ganter, manager of the cave and were sold by him as well as by Hains.
