genre, excellent series of at least 16 on blacks
in an unid. city; CRs range from late 60s to 00;
most views seen are later & on RMs;
Spanish/American war; OH, FL, NY, Canada, etc.
Was assoc. with Sarony in late 60s on a rare
Hudson River series (mainly West Point) in which
both their names are credited on a back label;
reported that Campbell was the actual field
photographer & the views were just published by
Sarony. Was later with Alvord, Kellogg &
Campbell, and then alone. Many Campbell views
have advertising backs for American Tobacco Co.,
