Stereographs project Business locations Chicago, IL, US [9] The expo. authorities established a "Department of Photography" with C.D. Arnold
listed as superintendent. It's function is
completely unclear; a few rare views are known
on gray/gray curved mts. with a globe logo on
the back and ID of "World's Columbian
Exposition, Department of Photography, C.D.
Arnold, Superintendent" and CR 92 by Arnold; a
letter-number is scratched into the neg. such as
"A-5" or "C-2" but none has been seen with a
title. No other ref. to a C.D. Arnold as a
photog. has been found & he likely was just an
administrator; the actual photog. of the views
is unknown. Several other photogs. such as
Kilburn, the Underwoods, & H.C. White took
stereos of the expo which are far more common.
It's possible that the views with the expo logo
were taken just for internal records, not public
sale. T.K. Treadwell & William C. Darrah (Compiled by), Wolfgang, Sell (Updated by), 11/28/2003, Photographers of the United States of America, (National Stereoscopic Association) |
