For the Missions Héliographiques Gustave Le Gray (French, 1820–1884) and Auguste Mestral (French, 1812–1884) traveled together and collaborated. One of the photographs of the ramparts at Carcassone (1851) is inscribed by Le Gray with "Gustave Le Gray et Mestral." on the lower right (Metropolitan Museum of Art, Accession numer: 2005.100.34).
